保羅．吉格（Paul Giger）著眼於生命的流動模式、死亡以及重生。他將巴哈的作品和畫家喬瓦尼．塞甘蒂尼（Giovanni Segantini）的作品及瑞士民間傳統音樂中汲取的靈感結合在一起。《Becoming – Being – Passing》（La Vita – La Natura – La Morte）是畫家喬瓦尼．塞甘蒂尼的三聯畫，也是保羅．吉格專輯《死亡藝術》（ars moriendi）重要的靈感來源，音樂瞬間即逝的主題像一條線一樣貫穿整個作品。專輯在瑞士的馬洛哈（Maloja）錄製，塞甘蒂尼在那裡度過了他生命的最後幾年。
